Women's Health Q & A

What are the main health concerns that women face?

Heart disease affects women as much as men, accounting for nearly 30% of deaths in women annually. More men die from heart disease, but women are typically underdiagnosed, interfering with early detection.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, but as with men, lung cancer accounts for more fatalities. Breast cancer treatments are more varied than ever, allowing for treatment plans to be much more individualized.

Osteoporosis remains a common female health issue, but it’s one that’s often preventable through attention and lifestyle choice early in adulthood. Depression affects twice as many women as men. Women also suffer the lion’s share of autoimmune disease at a rate of about 3-to-1 versus men. These include conditions such as lupus, type 1 diabetes, and multiple sclerosis.

Does Aspen Family Care offer on-site procedures for women?

Yes. In addition to common office services, such as family planning and well woman exams including PAP smears, we recognize there is much more to women than reproductive health.  With heart disease as a frequent cause of premature death for women, we offer a range of in-office heart testing to assist with risk assessment, evaluation of particular symptoms, and early detection.

We assist with arranging for breast screening and osteoporosis screening tests. Osteoporosis risk can be diminished greatly with steps in early adulthood. Counseling on how to reduce osteoporosis risk is one of many preventive measures we incorporate into wellness visits.

Asthma is also a common health issue for both women and men. We provide education and management of asthma, including spirometry testing to assess lung function and allergy testing and treatment, since allergies are often associated with asthma. Hearing and vision screenings are also performed in the office.

Does Aspen Family Care offer aesthetic/cosmetic treatments?

Yes. Within the same space, we house Aspen Medical Aesthetics. We offer a wide range of aesthetic treatments beyond those available from non-medical skin spas. Medical guidance and supervision are important when choosing someone who is working with you on your appearance and skin health.

From dermal fillers, laser hair reduction, body contouring, varicose veins, and other vascular issues, skin pigmentation issues, to BOTOX® Cosmetic-type injections, Aspen Medical Aesthetics is a full-range aesthetic clinic within a medical practice. Should particular expertise be needed that is different than the scope of our practice, we have knowledge in many aesthetic areas and are happy to refer you to other top specialists in the area.
